Since 2020, the Ensemble Tramuntana Youth Competition has been committed to emerging talent in the Balearic Islands, offering a proposal that goes far beyond conventional competitions.

An exceptional prize: the stage is yours
What truly sets us apart is our distinction: we offer an experience that many musicians only dream of living once in a lifetime. We select between 3 and 5 winners to perform as soloists accompanied by the Ensemble Tramuntana.

The first prize winner takes on a high-level professional challenge: leading two consecutive concerts as a soloist with the orchestra—a true immersion into the world of professional performance.

Training and inspiration
To ensure excellence, all winners receive a free masterclass with Barry Sargent prior to rehearsals. Furthermore, to close this celebration of talent, the winners' concert always hides an artistic surprise designed to inspire new generations.

This recognition is rounded off with an additional gift: a 275 € voucher to be shared among the finalists for musical equipment at Musicasa, thanks to their collaboration with the competition.

Requirements for Participation

  • Age: participants must be between 14 and 23 years old (inclusive) throughout the entire duration of the competition.

  • Instruments: open to violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, horn, and trumpet.

  • Repertoire: candidates must perform a work from the Baroque or Classical period with an approximate duration of 10 minutes. The piece must allow for string orchestra accompaniment or, if necessary, be easily adapted by omitting wind parts (for example: a movement from a Classical concerto or a complete Baroque concerto).

  • Exclusion: musicians who were winners in the immediately preceding edition are not eligible to participate.

Finalists of the VII Concurs de Joves Ensemble Tramuntana

We are delighted to invite you to the Finalists' Concert of the 7th Ensemble Tramuntana Youth Competition, taking place on November 17th at 7:00 PM at Can Gelabert (Binissalem) with free admission. This will be a very special evening dedicated to emerging talent, where the young finalists will perform as soloists. Ensemble Tramuntana will manage the presentation of the event, musically accompany each of the participants, and open and close the evening's program. To begin, we will journey to the origin of creation with Le Chaos from the work Les Éléments by Jean-Féry Rebel, and we will bring the concert to a close with the power of the Andante sostenuto - Allegro con molto from Luigi Boccherini's symphony La casa del diavolo. Furthermore, as is tradition in every edition to move beyond a purely musical experience and foster dialogue and combinations between different artistic disciplines, the evening will include a small surprise interdisciplinary presentation to conceptually enrich the event. Come enjoy this cross-disciplinary cultural proposal and support the new generation of performers.

Sounds of the Universe: from Chaos to Passion

Ensemble Tramuntana performs in a large chamber orchestra format using historical instruments to present Sounds of the Universe: From Chaos to Passion, an exceptional sonic journey through the most fascinating contrasts in European music history. Under the direction of Barry Sargent, the evening will open with the transgressive genius of Jean-Féry Rebel and his work Le Chaos, where an absolutely dissonant chord describes the original disorder of the universe before giving way to the festive mosaic of Les Caractères de la Danse. The commitment to the future of music will arrive with the performance of the brilliant first-prize winner of our Youth Soloist Competition, who will engage in an open dialogue with the orchestra. Calm and immortal beauty will come from the hands of Johann Sebastian Bach and his famous, serene Air from the Orchestral Suite No. 3. Finally, we will close the night with the electric energy and theatrical character of Luigi Boccherini's well-known symphony La casa del diavolo, culminating in an overwhelming power inspired by the dance of the furies. An essential cultural experience to travel through Europe from the audacity of the Baroque to the intensity of Classicism.
