Miquel Bennàssar (organ)
Music in times of the Germanías

July 17th, 2021 - 20:30

BANYALBUFAR: Parish Church

Free entrance
The prestigious organist Miquel Bennàssar presents a concert dedicated to music at the time of the Germanías revolt on the occasion of its 500th anniversary. For this reason, it proposes an audition of repertoires from the first half of the 16th century in the & # 39; oldest organ in the Balearic Islands, the Banyalbufar organ,

The Banyalbufar organ is a 17th century instrument that was originally located in the San Domingo de Palma Convent, which disappeared due to the confiscation of Madoz in 1837. The remains of this convent were distributed among the churches of the city and the towns from Mallorca. In 1847, the smaller organ of Santo Domingo was acquired by the town of Banyalbufar (in the same way that the larger organ had been acquired by the town of Santanyí). In this way, one of the most unique and valuable baroque instruments in the world was preserved. Between 1971 and 1994, two restorations by Gerhard Grenzing allowed this magnificent instrument to be fully recovered.
